tuscan birthday.

last week we had the opportunity to travel tuscany. we spent monday traveling through towns and then made it to siena - where we would spend the first night. and then wake up and see some of the important sights of siena and then we were on the road to florence! (don't you wish you could take field trips like that?)

SIENA!

my class :)

main church in siena. love the picture...

saw this crazy little dog in the gelato shop. i got the yogurt and mint chocolate chip. the presentation was beautiful, but it didn't taste too good.

alice & wonderland church!

ok- i am not going to lie but the only thing siena had going for it was food (the weather wasn't too hot - lots of rain - and we were there for 24 hours). great meals. for dinner i got a traditional tuscan tomato soup, the soup had bread and cheese soaked in and made an amazing texture. for lunch the next day i had 'pumpkin ravioli.' it was actually ricotta ravioli with a pumpkin based sauce and fresh cheese and sage. enjoy the picture...

take it all in, some of the best ravioli i have EVER had.

FIRENZE! aka florence
florence has been one of my favorite cities (so far), it is tied with venice! the main attractions in florence are leather, leather and more leather. so our first stop was the 'baby' leather market, where they have this 'famous' statue of a boar. legend has is that you rub the snout of the animal and then drop a coin in (from it's mouth) and it lands in the water through the grate you will have 'good luck' - now keep in mind i did this BEFORE the trip to paris. not sure if i believe in superstitions anymore....

testing my fate...

the search for the infamous leather bracelets is OVER. they have been found in florence! we spotted them, or well i saw them and had a slight freak out (everyone laughed and wished they would have gotten it on video - i don't blame them), but the bracelets had poor craftsmanship. so i decided to hold out and later when we were window shopping i saw some in the window. i got a black, turquoise and white one. i LOVE them.

rocking the new bracelets with my old fave- the tory wrap.

dinner was at a famous restaurant called 'acqua al 2,' they have sister restaurant in san diego (by the same name i believe). you should check it out. i had an amazing greek salad - and later found out they are famed for their blueberry steak. if i could turn back time i think i might change my order knowing what i know now...

day 2 in florence (aka the last day of me being 21)

last day of me being 21.

started with a few trips to local churches (that were all still closed when we arrived ON TIME. europe doesn't really follow rules...), and then we made our way to see the 'fake' david in a square, crossed the ponte vecchio.

ponte vecchio!

ponte vecchio is a great little bridge that has stores on the bridge, they were pretty much all jewelry stores so we just window shopped. then we embarked on the biggest workout of my life. i think (if i remember correctly) we walked up the longest hill with the steapest incline EVER. (someone really needs to do the math and submit it for a record) maybe i finally found where kim kardashian works out?

we are all getting closer to the end goal:
a kim kardashian ass.

after we all had the workout of a lifetime with our italian teacher laughing at us (i have a theory that ALL americans are out of shape, it must be in our DNA because these hikes are still not any easier) we arrived to the roberto capucci museum. overall the renderings were better than the actual models. here a couple pictures of my favorites...

LOVE this.
it is a detail on a dress (like waist/hip area)

part of his 'working woman' collection.
im not sure how easily it would be to 'work' in this creation...

MY B-DAY.
first stop of the ferragamo museum. yes, THE salvatore ferragamo. it was awesome. pictures were not allowed, but lil coco got a picture of the 'color wheel of shoes.' LOVE IT. pretty memorable thing to do on ya b-day...

COLOR WHEEL!
made with ferragamo s

my birthday dinner was at a swanky little restaurant called 'za-za.' ya know jen's hubby ben? yeah he's been there. he's kind of a big deal.

THE mr. ben affleck enjoying some za-za

my meal was a salad (some brie and nut concotion that i split with cyd) and chicken with truffle sauce and roasted potatoes. YUM.

lil coco and me!
first day being 22 and i already look so much older and wiser. what a transformation 1 day can make.

eliza (lil coco's friend), THE lil coco, and me!

the other attendants.
nortold, kelly, and cyd.

florence has no cupcake places, or pastry places what so ever (to our knowledge) so we headed back to the duomo (the big church in florence) to indulge in another american tradition. BEN&JERRY'S ICE CREAM. yep. we found ice-cream, not gelato this time. since it is only your birthday once (a year), i decided to splurge on the highest caloric option. a belgian waffle with 'chunky monkey' and then drizzled with melted nutella. mmmmmmm

the evidence of its greatness.

mmmmmmm!
