SB 2010 - farewell fes!

last day in fes. we went on a tour with abdul and his wife. his wife speaks little to no english, but she was very nice. she took us to see a mosque and a museum of muslim artifacts.

then we were invited to their house for tea. she served the typical moroccan tea (mint leaves infused in green tea) and i think we met one of her daughters (and possibly her daughter's husband), everyone else had decent english. and then their was a baby! it was a little girl and she is probably one of the cutest babies i have ever seen. she was 4.5 months old and looked like a baby doll. she had beautiful dark hair (and skin), henna nails - we thought they were painted at first, overall she was a very pleasant baby - expect when she played with lil coco, she began to whimper. abdul met us back at his house (he was finishing up a tour with another group) and took us back to the same place for lunch.

when we arrived (at a normal lunch hour, unlike last time) we realized that this eatery was the place where tour guides would drop off the tourists for a meal. but i wasn't complaining the food was good last time. the first course was similar to what was served 2 days ago. they had white beans instead of lentils and we were served a plate of beets and zucchini too. i decided to try another moroccan dish some type of pastry chicken ( i knew i would be having chicken tajine at the riad for dinner). lil coco played it safe and stuck with the almond chicken tajine. we ordered sides of rice and cous cous, the rice was served with the first course and then taken away when the main meal was served and sadly the cous cous was never served. i was sad, because the cous cous was so fluffy and good last time!

their was an old american couple (i could have left out that they were old - lil coco and i have been the youngest travelers that we have encountered in morocco) at lunch, and the woman was the BIGGEST complainer ever. she returned her kababs because they were beef, not chicken like she ordered. and then when she was eating the chicken ones she was complaining that they were too undercooked. this is what i wanted to say to her - ok, you are in a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, don't expect things to be cooked and prepared the way you are used to in america. this is not the ritz. i mean has she not noticed that morcco isn't like america? they have donkeys on the street(not to mention poop everywhere - because of the donkeys) and they walk on the butcher counters with their shoes on (that probably were just walking on the poop covered street). maybe it was her first day - and if it was, she is in for a RUDE awakening.

after lunch, we headed to finish some shopping. you would be proud - i didn't buy a SINGLE thing today. big accomplishment for me. after ending our tour early because of 'holy day' - everything was pretty much closed anyways. i am not sure how we managed to visit everywhere when they are closed. in lisbon everything is closed on monday and everything is closed friday in muslim countries (because friday is like their sunday). i guess it is a special talent. now we have our last moroccan meal at the riad and then off to bed. we are catching the 4:45 train in the morning -yikes. so we can make out 12:30PM flight in casablanca. farewell fes! i promise to come back and buy all the beautiful rugs - after i make my first million ;)
