'we hung out with caesar pollachi.'

update for the gelato diaries:
(my excuse for eating gelato every day - 'i am doing research for my blog.' i have a goal to try as many flavors as possible while i am over here...wish me luck! it's kind of a challenge to find it during the 'off' season)

2.5.2010 – we traveled to genzano for a field trip, and we found a gelato place (duh). I wanted to try the pistachio and chocolate...but sadly the server spoke little to no english and only heard that I wanted chocolate, so thats all I got.:(

chocolate gelato tastes like partially frozen brownie batter.
its the bomb.com

don't believe everything you hear,
italy has fat people just like the states!

'roaming around rome'

saturday we went around rome and worked on an assignment. Our first 'mshap' of the day was getting the departing train from albano (ariccia's neighboring town)confused. We thought that train left 10:00 and it really left at 10:45. After arriving in Termini we took the metro to the colosseum.

lil coco getting ready for the metro. We all put our purses and bags under or jackets. We pretty much looked like tourists, probably making us an even easier target.

now I know why the stop on the metro is called the colosseum, this was what you would see if you stepped out of the metro – AMAZING, even for a rainy day

We walked around close by and found some ruins (which were part of the roman forum)

check out the trees in the background.
they are pine trees! how strange that they grow in such a different shape here!

lunch we found a little hole in the wall that served pizza for lunch (whoop whoop!), so I had salami pizza and dessert was gelato with fruit! Yum.

*The reason for the excitement about pizza for lunch is due to the fact that italians think of pizza as a dinner food. but i am usually out to lunch and want pizza.

the spicy salami pizza i ordered was very similar to an
american pepperoni.

this gelato was UNREAL! i ordered half strawberry and half vanilla it tasted similar to strawberries and cream. then i asked for the fresh fruit salad (pineapple, banana, kiwi and strawberry) on top. YUM.

then we walked around and attempted to work on our assignment...eventually we ended up walking a massive 1.5 hours circle around rome (but ran into so cool stuff on the way) to end up in the same piazza as before...

lil coco staying hydrated thanks to an aquaduct.
go ancient roman engineering!
what we ran into on our never ending search...

holy amazing (literally).

keeping the middle blocked off.
the oculous lets in so much water!

getting splashed with nasty roman street water by a bus. Total bridget jones diary moment...

lil coco and I are trying to get a 'kim kardashian' ass...so every time we see stairs we run up them :)

AMAZING! Seeing the other side of the roman forum...so cool up close.

genzano for the beginning of carnivale.

Sunday (or today) we went to genzano to check out the local 'mardi gras' celebration. Very interesting. Apparently Italians really like native americans.

native AMERICANS in italy for carnivale...weird.

the street was literally pure confetti.

we also found a booth that sold interesting 'pipes.' I would post a picture, but I think they are a little to XXX. The booths we passed sold everything from candy to popeye underwear and panty hose to jackets (I learned that you can find just about anything in the markets here). For dinner we enjoyed a vendor delicacy of grilled corn and then a dessert of gelato!

I finally got the 'pistachi y chocolate' (I am pretty sure that I combined both spanish and italian to order- but at least I finally got what I had been trying to order.)! Whoop whoop!!

the pistachio is perfect. actually tastes like the nut!
and the chocolate is a great compliment. mmm i am getting hungry writing this...
